[Review]Is the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM The best Prime Lens ?

Sigma had been one of favorite lens maker of mine other than the Nikon and Canon. Sigma does make a completely different lens. Well 50 mm lens or prime lens which has one fixed focal length, you want to zoom in and zoom out then you got move your legs rather adjusting the lens. Also, the prime lens delivers the best possible sharpness and contrast. 50mm lens is my sweet spot and I love to shoot with it, also at the same time they are super cheap. I didn’t use any good quality prime lens until sigma sent me one for the review. When I used the Sigma 50mm for the first photo itself I was in love with that lens. I did review other Sigma lens as well like the Sigma 12-24mm and Sigma 18-300mm which was the wide lens and zoom lens respectively. At the prime lens, Sigma is completely different for me and the way it delivers the result was phenomenal. Sigma 50mm is one of the best prime lenses you could buy right now.

Build of Sigma 50mm

The build quality for the sigma lens is always the best I have seen in stock and third party lens. The Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM has the sturdy build which is also heavy at the same time. It gives the camera better grip because of the extra weight so low shutter shots gets a stability. There’s a button for choosing the AF/MF which is tight and sturdy when you push it you will feel its awesome quality. Even the focus meter was better accurate. What made me special to love this lens was the focus motor inside this lens, which is quiet for almost all possible aperture. It’s so silent that it will make all other lens value out for the price paid for this. If you are a manual focus lover then special rotating focus ring is large and so smooth that a completely different quality of material I saw in Sigma lens. Talking of the Top glass which made me felt like wide angle lens. The glass on the top is completely fish eye type but it isn’t the fish eye, it looks alike of that. The study and heavy of Sigma 50mm do add a weight to the camera but at the same time, it gives a better stability.

Who should buy a 50mm Lens ?

One who shoots lots of flowers , people’s portfolios or singles on the open range, review videos where a single component is been focused, and actually much more. Even its recommend for beginners to understand the depth of field. Not recommend for always zoom lens user or even wide angle lens users.

Performance and pictures in Sigma 50mm

So less the aperture F-stop value, shallower the depth of field and more light comes in and it performs stellar at night.  Anyone would love to shoot these pictures of people at F1.4 and it delivers it well. The contrast and sharpness were well maintained. The only thing which addicted me to shoot more and more photos was its silent focus motor and which brings the subject in focus smoother than another lens. The same thing was in manual focus I could feel the better ring and the focus meter reading was accurate and perfect if you are focusing looking at the value of the meter. It was helpful. Verdict

If you are looking for a premium block or prime 50mm F1.4 lens for your Cannon EOS or Nikon Then Sigma 50mm F1.4 is the best Prime lens you could buy. You get additional carrying case too which is a brilliant carrying case if you are using a non-DSLR bag. So nothing much to worry. It priced at 73,000rs and I think the money spent on this is a worth. Do check more sample images here.
